The Beta Read
The Beta Read is an entry-level editorial service for authors who need an extra pair of eyes on their manuscript. I will read your manuscript and write up a brief summary letter that highlights what plot lines or characters are or are not working for your story, addresses a maximum of three items within the manuscript that could use extra retooling, and provides general suggestions or commentary. I am happy to work with partial manuscripts if you need guidance earlier in your writing process.
This service will not include any in-line changes, questions, or edits.
How It Works
When you reach out to me, I will send you a client welcome packet and a questionnaire to complete with details about your manuscript.
Once you have submitted the questionnaire and I have had a chance to review your responses, I will send you a custom quote for the service.
If the quote is agreeable, you will sign and return it to me along with your manuscript saved as a Word Document or PDF. A 50% deposit is due at the time of booking. If your service is less than $200 in total, the full amount will be due at time of booking.
Upon completion of The Beta Read, I will send you a final invoice. Once the invoice is paid in full, I will return your manuscript along with a letter that will provide feedback on your story as well as suggestions for a maximum three areas where the manuscript may be improved.
Pricing
